They are a disparate team of hard core individualist superheroes who work alone but when the Earth or the Universe itself is under threat by otherworldly, super-powered evildoers these four come together, led by Dr. Strange, ‘Sorcerer Supreme, Master of the Mystical Arts’ to combat Great Forces of Menace of a sometimes more supernatural nature, that elude the radar of the much more well known Avengers and Fantastic Four. Not Knowing they exist as a team is there edge against the more darker forces of evil! ‘Freyjudager’(Friday) ...There are days on the Western Ocean when it seems as if the white-capped waves are a shimmering unbroken string of Liquid Pearls and when the Gold of the Sun, multiplied by its reflection on the Sea, is all The King-Hoards of distant Turan rolled into one. All of this ethereal beauty is lost on the coal-like,steely,purposeful gaze of the barbarian Conan, once of Cimmaria, now a Zingaran Buccaneer Captain. Six long weeks ago he bloodily wrested control of the ship, terminating its previous captain and commandeering this merchant gallion and it’s surviving crew by the brutal, bloody edge of his cleaving Cromian Sword..It is Gold and Treasure this Barbarian lustily seeks and it all can be found on the once thought Mythic Island of Gwahlur, ‘Death Island’, where the seas give up their treasures of ill fated ships from time in memorium. With one tree trunk arm leaning on the Steering Sweep, one leg balanced on a brimful Wine-Keg and a tattered, ancient map to Death Island breeze-blown in his brawny, battle scarred hands, the North born Barbarian’s countenance is growing dark and baleful, inwardly questioning the validity of this ancient piece of parchment given to him by a ‘trusted’ Zamoran Wizard. His brutally acquired crew dare not whisper or even make eye contact with the Barbarian when he is this way...and pray they are on course until Gwahlur, or Death itself is reached. “In The Clutches of The Kingpin!!”..Disappointed to hear they cancelled Daredevil after this Season(3).The best Marvel series on Netflix in my opinion..So well shot in New York and absolutely brilliantly written and acted by a fantastic cast. Rumour hath it, it might not be the television end for ‘The Man without Fear’, Ol’ DD maybe picked up by Disney. Leave it to Stan to come up with a handicapped (blind) superhero with no superpowers which makes him all the more compelling when faced with such challenges and malevolent Super-Baddies like The ‘Kingpin!’ Here’s my quickie old school drawing of Daredevil, The Black Widow and Wilson Fisk(The Kingpin). ‘Superman...No More !?!’ (C) 26/03/20..A little semi-self-isolation sketch(as a freelance storyboard/concept artist I’m used to it).I was inspired a few days ago when I was at Loblaws and a friendly lady was ringing my groceries through. We had a brief chat and I learned she was 81 years old and she cheerfully said she may ‘cut back on a few shifts’ until this ‘virus thing’ blows over. Unbelievable. I was in awe of her! People like her are the real-life ‘Superheroes’ of our current world who do not have the privilege of the prescribed isolation and social distancing but who keep some semblance of essential human society running for the rest us during this very difficult, temporary situation. Truly she is, and so many others in the service sector (Not to mention our vital health professionals & law enforcement officials)...

Doc Savage : Man Of Bronze : ‘The Doctor Will See You now’
Long before there was a John Wick or even a Superman, there was 1930’s pulp fiction hero, Doc Savage, a 6 ft 8 inch bronze-skinned colossus who was born and bred by his rich industrialist father and a team of scientists to operate at the highest levels of physical strength, endurance and intellectual prowess. His full name Clark Savage, Jr., he is a master martial artist, physician, scientist, adventurer, detective, linguist, musician and polymath who "rights wrongs and punishes evildoers." He’s now retired from the Superhero Business, ‘mostly’…he now leaves almost all of the ‘Superheroing’ to a new breed of ‘Young Gun’ Superhero types, only occasionally finding himself called in to provide a little ‘adult supervision’ when these Young Guns are in over their heads and still occasionally need a guy who can redirect a giant earth-destroying asteroid with his barehands back into outer-space or help repel an Alien Horde…and ‘the old man’ can still do that in spades. When he’s finished saving their arses, the Earth & the Cosmos themselves sometimes,…he barely gets a thank you from these insecure, young Super-Narcissists & even the occasional ‘We could have done that’. The old man silently replies with only a kindly, yet slightly wry ‘you’re full of **it wink & a smile & flies off before the World Media Circus descends on the scene with whom these new young superheroes are enamoured with,..but the ‘old man’ disdains.
For them it’s all about the global mass media machine publicity, the superhero celebrity groupie-superstar adulation of the masses, but ‘ol Supes’ never liked the global media fake news/paparazzi attention & the unwanted massively iconic celebrity it has given him. He doesn’t care about that stuff or who gets the credit.
It just needed to be done to save billions of lives, that’s it & that’s all he ever cared about…ever.

Back to the farm on Smallville he returns with all it’s happy ghosts of the past. It is now his refuge from this chaotic world he no longer understands. He proudly considers himself a farmer now, living alone on the small Kent family farm he grew up on from the time of his rescue as an infant from the burning wreckage of a flaming rocket pointed to Earth from his dying home planet of Krypton. An intergalactic ‘Hail Mary Pass’ by his desperate scientist father Jor-El to save his infant son from Krypton’s imminent demise. As if the cataclysmic fiery moment was touched by the hand of God himself, the alien Kryptonian child was pulled from the burning wreckage inexplicably unscathed, by Johnathan Kent, a local Smallville farmer, who with his wife Martha, immediately adopted the young Kryptonian toddler whom the childless couple considered the answer to their prayers.
They named him Clark,..’Their Son’, Clark Kent, they were elated, they loved him dearly. However the couple continued to quickly discover on a daily basis, he was so vastly different than a ‘normal’ child,..but an immeasurable ‘Gift from God’, literally ‘from the Heavens above’ nonetheless.
Today, many years later, Clark is re-roofing the barn by hand with a hammer, even though he could tap each nail in with his finger in blinding succession & finish the entire roof in a millisecond with his extraordinary powers,.. he prefers to use a simple hammer, methodically, slowly tapping each nail in, one at a time,…it makes him feel more…’human’. Only occasionally, does he concede to his super powers, like carrying a ceased old tractor in from the field and into the barn for repairs, which he does himself, with wrenches & screw drivers, by hand, just like his adoptive dad Johnathan taught him.
His Earthly father Johnathan taught him all the jobs required on a farm, including the carpentry and mechanical skills a farmer must know and to never use his super powers for fear of the attention they might draw. He wanted young Clark to have as normal a childhood as possible and then later, as an adult, if he decided he wanted to become…a ‘Superman’ & the enormous responsibility that would entail, then that decision was Clark’s alone. Just be a normal boy for now, was Johnathan’s rules for young Clark. Johnathan Kent saw the child’s great powers as being both a blessing & a curse that could be falsely perceived by the nearsighted masses as a threat to the world itself. Johnathan Kent was a very wise father indeed.
Clark’s beloved adoptive parents, Johnathan & Martha are long gone now, 100 years or more at least, all the friends and cousins he grew up with in Smallville, his journalism career in Metropolis, all gone for many decades now. That’s the curse of being Superman. Eventually you outlive everyone.
As he has on occasion, if Clark dwells on these things too much he’ll become very sad, as only on the exterior is he a ‘man of steel’ but inside he is the same as the rest of us, so he chooses not to, today. There is much to be done this day on the farm that he will do at his deliberately slow ‘human’ pace, hoping he can slow the stealthy hands of time that keep speeding past even a Superman, like a blur.
Andre The Giant/Six Million Dollar Man Homage! (C) 2022 14/07/22, I guess you have to be of a ‘certain age’ to remember this show but it was ‘must see’ TV for me as a kid on Sunday Nights at 8 pm on CTV! It had the coolest opening sequence on any show, ever…One particular episode really grabbed me and scared the Bejeebers out of me as a kid, was when Steve Austin(The Bionic Man)was attacked by Bigfoot, The Sasquatch, played by The Larger than Life, Legendary ‘Andre The Giant’, The 8th Wonder of the World! A ‘Colossus’ of a Human being and my All time favorite Pro Wrestler…I was literally fearing Steve Austin was surely going to ‘buy the farm’ in this one, the most terrifying, spine tingling episode ever, of the show!

Incredible Martial Arts fight scene choreography that is more like balletic moving art. Check ‘er out ! ‘Who Can Turn The World On With Her Smile?’…Who can take a Nothing Day & Suddenly make it all seem Worthwhile…
Clint Eastwood : ‘The Gauntlet’ (1977) … Maybe one of Eastwoods more under-appreciated flics I think, but it set the template for the over the top, action crime thrillers we see today , I don’t think there would have been a ‘Die Hard’ if there wasn’t ‘The Gauntlet’ first , Eastwood plays Ben Shockley, a tough, burned out alcoholic, screw-up Phoenix cop specifically selected by the woefully corrupt City Commissioner Blackelock (to fail) in escorting a call girl witness from Las Vegas to Phoenix to stand trial against a powerful mob boss with very serious police department criminal implications as well. Both The Mob and The Police use nonstop lethal means to do every they can to ensure they don’t make it to trial. Even the Las Vegas gaming odds keepers are running a betting line they don’t make it to the Vegas courtroom alive and the odds appear 100 to 1 they don’t, but Shockley comes to the sobering realization of why he was selected and is determined to prove them wrong
